Aarya Montesino

Deena Naidoo (winner of MasterChef SA season 1) co-owns Aarya Restaurant with Tsogo Sun at the Montecasino Piazza so you know it's curried perfectly. See what we did there? LOL! On serious note though, Aarya's zest for life can be found in its story. The restaurant contractually forms part of the prize which Deena won in 2012 so he took the lead by redesigning it to suit his standards and renaming it after his young daughter (Aarya meaning favourable and honourable in Sanskrit - is also the respectful way to address women)

GO HELLO LOVES: Aarya's savoury and succulent prawn curry! Simple and sophisticated, this dish is more memorable than the rest because the fresh prawns are marinated overnight. In cumin, coriander, cardamom, oil, turmeric and curry powder. It's a recipe for elation! The dish is served with Basmatic rice flavoured in cumin seeds, garlic and butter. There's also Aarya's Butter Chicken which is rightfully the best-selling dish on their menu. "An award-wining mild curry served with Jeera Basmati rice" - because our dreams can't get better than this!

ANYTHING ELSE TO KNOW: Is Aarya takes reservations 7 days a week between 6:30 am -10:30 pm! Deena Naidoo is only obliged to be on-site five times a month as he still lives in Durban but, that doesn't stop the don from visiting more often than usual... But fear not Joburgers! Because you're taste buds and happiness are always in good hands at Aarya's as we've heard that their headchef, Kenneth Ngubane, is also the headchef at Jenda in Montecasino!

Chef Deena gets it right, all the time. I love that he has remained loyal to his passion, and that he has been able to actually take the MasterChef status and make it real. The food was gorgeously presented and tasted amazing. Service and ambience was friendly and relaxed.
